The Art and Design Program at Moshi Street Kids Academy is a vibrant, creative initiative aimed at empowering young people through artistic expression. Art has the power to heal, inspire, and transform, and our program offers a safe space where street-connected youth can explore their creativity, discover talents, and develop practical skills that can lead to sustainable livelihoods.

Program Overview

Our art and design program focuses on both the expressive and professional aspects of art. It includes:

• Drawing and Painting: Introduction to techniques, color theory, and personal expression

• Crafts and Sculpture: Using everyday materials to create meaningful and marketable items

• Graphic Design: Basics of digital illustration, layout design, and branding

• Fashion and Textile Design: Sewing, pattern making, and fabric art for self-expression and income generation

Types of Sessions

We structure our learning around multiple session formats:

1. Practical Sessions

Hands-on projects, studio time, and mentorship from practicing artists allow students to apply their creativity while learning new techniques.

2. Theoretical Sessions

Students are introduced to art history, design principles, and critical thinking through engaging classroom discussions and presentations.

3. Online Learning

Where possible, we provide online resources, video tutorials, and virtual workshops with artists to complement in-person training.

Creative Curriculum

Our curriculum is age-appropriate and progressively builds artistic confidence and technical ability. It is designed to nurture:

Development Stages by Age

• Under 10 (Exploration & Fun): Introduction to colors, shapes, and playful creativity

• Ages 11-14 (Skills Foundation): Learning drawing techniques, crafts, and expression

• Ages 15-18 (Creative Development): Deeper engagement with design tools, critique, and personal projects

• 18+ (Professional Pathway): Portfolio building, branding, freelancing skills, and business basics

Recruitment of Young Artists

We reach out to street-connected youth, local schools, and communities to identify aspiring young artists. Our doors are open to anyone with a passion for creating, regardless of experience level.
